Kitchen & Table
The everyday table, beautifully simple.
Good bread. Familiar plates. A little more time together. That is quite enough.

Hospitality begins with an open door
An invitation does not require matching dinnerware or a menu rehearsed in advance. The table you use every day is already the right table. Clear a little space, bring out the plates you have, and choose a meal you can make without spending the entire visit in the kitchen.
Build around useful basics
A plain dinner plate, a bowl that works for soup and porridge, and a glass that feels good in the hand cover most occasions. If you are replacing broken pieces, check the dimensions of your cupboard and dishwasher before choosing. Open-stock collections may make individual replacements easier.
Choose one small ritual
Fold the napkins. Put a branch from the garden in a jug. Turn the overhead light down a little. Small acts of attention say that time together matters, without requiring a new collection of things.
Leave space for the people
The best centrepiece is often the food itself. Keep arrangements low enough for conversation and leave room to pass a dish. At the end of the evening, a table with crumbs and empty glasses is a table that has done its job.
